Cell Selection and Grading Logic™ Cell Filtering
Without selecting and filtering the cells to improve relevance, the results can become skewed by invisible cell properties in cells without text.
Relevant Cell Selection
The relevancy of the grading results depends on the selections made when creating the project. Instructors should only select the sheets, cell ranges, cell properties, and chart properties that are the most relevant to the topics covered.
Relevant Cell Filtering
The automated Grading Logic™ also filters the cells to improve the relevancy of the grading result. Cell filtering is necessary do to the extreme level of detail that automated grading offers. The Grading Logic™ filters out cells that don’t meet the cell relevance filtering rules below.
Cell Relevance Filtering Rules
-
Only compares cell and chart properties selected by instructor
-
Only compares sheets and cells ranges selected by instructor
-
Compares all cells in the first row or column in ranges selected by instructor
-
Compares cells not in the first row or column only if they have text or a formula
So if a cell in the instructor’s file, is not in the first row or column, and has
no formula or text, it will not be compared to the students cell, even if the
student cell is not blank.
Good Selection Example
The most relevant cell range for the spreadsheet below would be 'Sheet1!(A1:G19)'.
Bad Selection Example
If the instructor selected the maximum cell range 'Sheet1!(A1:Z30)' any cell
errors past cell (G:19) would not be very relevant and could negatively skew
the grading results.
Cell Filtering Example
In rows 4, 9, 14, and 17 only the first cell will be compared. In rows 18
and 19 only the first 3 cells will be compared. If the instructor had
selected cells past cell (G:19) the Grading Logic™ would have
automatically filtered out relevant cells.
